Biography

Larry and his family have lived in Clay County for over 40 years. He and his wife Janet have four grown children (all educated in North Kansas City schools) and two grandsons. Larry is an U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He serves as an Elder and Sunday school teacher at North Oak Christian Church Larry earned his B.A. in Economics and a Law degree from UMKC

Record of Public Service

Larry served Clay County in several capacities before being elected as the Clay County Western Commissioner as a member of the:

  • Clay County Park Board
  • Shoal Creek Living History Board
  • Clay County Election Board

Since being elected as Western Commissioner in 2004, Larry has been busy meeting the challenges of County government. Larry has:

  • maintained fiscal responsibility
  • expanded our natural trails system
  • reduced Clay County's debt level
  • increased funding for our elderly and uninsured indigents
  • upgraded the Jesse James Farm and Farris Farm historic sites
  • provided 40 miles of asphalt and chip-seal

As your Western Commissioner, Larry also represents the interests of Clay County by serving on the Boards of the Mid-America Regional Council, the kcICON Community Action Group, the Clay County Building Codes Commission and the Clay County Economic Development Council.
